Breakfast in or near Indianapolis Airport

My sister and I are flying into Indianapolis with our families from different states to visit my parents. We%26#39;re going to meet at the airport and share a rental car. Our flight arrives at 7:30 AM but hers doesn%26#39;t get there until 10, so we have 2.5 hours to kill.

Is there a place inside the airport that we can sit down and have a leisurely breakfast? We are taking the red eye from Hawaii so I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll be tired.

If we get the car and leave the airport, will it be a hassle to come back to pick up my sister?

Also, any input on what kind of vehicle to rent? We have four adults, one child and all our luggage so it%26#39;s got to be big.

I would get the car and go off property. There are places for breakfast but it%26#39;s usually kind of hectic and most are just the fast food type. There are places near the airport within 5 minutes. Go to interstate 465 and go north to Rockville Road. There is a Bob Evans on the westside or aplace called Kazablnca%26#39;s on the east. Both are easily accessible back to the airport. One of the best breakfast%26#39;s in town is Charlie Brown%26#39;s. Go one exit farther north to 10th Street. Go east about 2 miles to main Street in Speedway and go north. You%26#39;ll see it. (It%26#39;s an extra 5 min drive or less from Rockville Road). As far as picking up the last part of your party it should be NO problem. I think you can park in the parking garage for FREE for a half hour. After that it would be about $3.00 per hour. Traffic around the airport isn%26#39;t bad, 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. of course is the slowest moving ,but generally it would be a short delay of 5 minutes or less at it%26#39;s worst. You might be best to rent a mini van. I prefer Alamo rental. They have unlimited mileage. Where will your final destination be?

We need to drive a couple of hours west to get to my folks house in Illinois. I was thinking of maybe a ';premium'; rental car (1 step up from full) like a Chrysler Pacifica or a Crown Victoria? These are cheaper than renting a large SUV or minivan by quite a bit and they are supposed to be able to take 5 passengers + 5 bags. What do you think?

Isn%26#39;t a Pacifica sort of like an SUV? We rented a Chrylser LaBaron from ft Lauderdale to Ft Myers with 4 people and had no problems. For only a couple hours I would say that the two above mentioned should be fine, unless someone there is like my wife and has to have an extra suitcase for shoes!!! A couple other good breakfast places are The Appletree abd the Indianapolis Motor Speedway%26#39;s Brickyard Crossing. The Appletree is at Washington St and High School Road about one mile north of the airport. From the terminal go straight north on High School to Washington. It%26#39;s just across Wash on the right. The Brickyard Crossing has a great breakfast with a beautiful seting overlooking the golf course. From Charlie Borwns go north on main St to 16th Street. Turn right. You%26#39;ll see the greatest race track in the world. Go staright about a half mile and you%26#39;ll see the Brickyard Crossing on the left

Thanks Indyob, I will definitely look into those places.

Yeah the Pacifica is sort of a crossover almost-SUV. I got one once as a rental car free upgrade, and it sure seemed huge for just one person. I called it the Chrysler Gigantica because it felt like driving a whale!

Go for that then. Better to drive a whale than a lemon. When are you coming in?

I%26#39;m partial to National Car Rental - - I travel a lot, and for relatively little you can join the Emerald Club ($50 I think). Then, when you go to any National Rental Center, they have large ';Aisle%26#39;s'; full of a variety of cars - including SUV%26#39;s and Crossovers (Pacifica, RAV4, GMC%26#39;s new mid-sized SUV, etc.). You just walk up and sit in the car you want to take, and drive off. If you accrue enough rentals, they have an ';Executive Selection Aisle'; with even higher end cars (the Crown Vic%26#39;s are here). Of course, you can rent these without joining the Emerald Club, but I like this arrangement so much I thought I%26#39;d mention it.

Also, if you come in on a Sunday, I think the Wolfgang Puck restaurant at the terrific Indianapolis Museum of Art still puts on a great Sunday Brunch. 11a or so, not 10a ... It%26#39;s probably the best Sunday brunch around - at least in my experience ...
