Things to do around Wabash

Visiting Wabash December 14-16. What is there to do in the area? We don%26#39;t mind driving up to Fort Wayne. We will be heading East to get back to PA, so maybe something in Eastern Indiana???

Any restaurant suggestions?

Nwyrbby,

I had a hard time finding things in Wabash too, but SomeOne123 gave me the link to the Honeywell Center which has some nice events:

Here%26#39;s a link to a list of restaurants in Wabash County.

I%26#39;m assuming you%26#39;re taking I-70 back to PA? If you are, you can look at the Holiday Happenings posts on the Indiana forum, and anything listed under www.roamrandolph.org and www.visitrichmond.org would basically be on your way. (You can also go to those sites for restaurant ideas for your trip.)

SomeOne123 posted some things going on in Fort Wayne on the Holiday Happenings post. For more Fort Wayne Info, you can go to their website:

I hope this helps!

I live in Wabash, and we sometimes joke that a night out on the town means a trip to Walmart. You mentioned in your other post that you would be staying at Huntington. Both Wabash and Huntington Counties are pretty rural, small-town kind of places. But there are some things to do in the area, depending on what you are interested in.

In your other post you said you will be attending a concert in Wabash, and I assume that will be at the Honeywell Center, which is the culture center of Wabash. Eugenia’s Restaurant at the Honeywell Center has pre-concert buffets. If you are attending the Sunday night Wynonna Christmas Concert, that buffet is sold out, but if you are attending the Friday night Mark Schultz concert, it looks like there are still buffet reservations available. See menu and info here:

The original part of the Honeywell Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it is interesting to take a few minutes to look around it. There is usually some kind of art exhibit at the Honeywell Center. The Hoosier Salon display will be there when you are in Wabash. You might want to take a few minutes for this as well.

I mentioned a couple of Wabash restaurants on your other post in the Fort Wayne forum (Market Street Grill and Aztecaz Mexican Grill).

Wabash has a couple of nice museums. The Wabash County Historical Museum is new and a fine facility. Their current ';changing exhibit'; is “High School Traditions of Wabash County.” Do you remember “senior cords”? You might find this fun even if you aren’t from Wabash County. See their website for info and hours:

The Dr. James Ford Historic Home is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. It just opened to the public recently, and I haven’t been there yet.

You could take in a movie at the 100-year-old Eagles Theater. This is not a multiplex theater! There is usually one movie showing, once a day, with an afternoon show sometimes on weekends. You will feel like you have stepped back in time. Call 260-563-3272 for info.

Downtown Wabash has a couple of really nice gift stores: A. F. Billings Flowers %26amp; Gifts and The D Shoppe (Gifts and Collectibles). They are both open 9:00 to 5:00 (1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday).

Marion is about a half-hour’s drive from Wabash. Their “Christmas City Walkway of Lights” is a four-mile-long drive-through display of Christmas lights. We drive through this every year. There are some one-way streets downtown, so be sure to follow the directions on the website to get to the beginning of the display.

We like Mi Pueblo, a Mexican restaurant in an old train station in downtown Marion.

Wagon Wheel Theatre at Warsaw (about an hour’s drive from Wabash) is presenting a live production of Rodgers %26amp; Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

We like the BoatHouse Restaurant in Winona Lake, right next to Warsaw.

There are several art shops, galleries, and gift shops at the Village at Winona but I don’t know how many are open in the winter. Check the links on the BoatHouse page for info.

OK, one more thing, for something out in the country and maybe kind of quaint:

Salamonie Reservoir Interpretive Center is having a “celebration open house” on December 16 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. There will be music, a live reindeer with a talk about reindeer (3:00), Santa, horse drawn wagon rides (weather permitting) (friends of mine are providing the rides), and refreshments. The center is located in Lost Bridge West Recreation Area on SR 105 in western Huntington County.

I hope you will find something here that interests you. Have fun!
