Hi all,
Im travelling back to Indianapolis from Ireland at the end of May for 3 weeks to see my friends and attend another friends wedding. I have lived and worked in Indianapolis for 3 months back in 2002 but would like to do more travelling this time and was going to head away somewhere for 1 week whilst Im there. I was thinking of hiring a car and going off somewhere (suggestions??) or maybe getting an internal flight from either Chicago or Indianapolis (suggestions??). My friend is thinking Florida and Im thinking Las Vegas...what and where would be good...and resonably priced...to go to for 1 week? Cheers
Suggestions please!
There are many options! First, what do you like to do?
Suggestions please!
Vegas would be good. You can get pretty good rates, especially Tues thru Thurs with Air Tran or Southwest Airlines. A 3-4 day stay in Vegas is nice but it will be hot that time of year, but the casinos hace AC so who cares. I like The Flamingo Hotel. It%26#39;s centrally located on the strip. There is plenty of FREE things to do there also. Chicago is fun for a weekend. Like the above post asks, ';what do you enjoy';? Of course here at the end of May is The Indianapolis 500!!! Is it true when someone says, ';Top O the Morning to You'; you%26#39;re supposed to answer,';and the rest of the day to you';?
Well firstly...that saying is more of a stereotype than anything else...some people say it but only as a joke!! Its just one of those many ';typical'; Irish things such as guiness and shamrocks!!
As for what I like doing...anything really...I dont get into Chicago till 30th May so I just miss the Indy 500 which is such a pity...I loved Chicago last time I was over and plan to spend a good weekend partying there...just fancied a random holiday within a holiday for one of the weeks I will be there...as long as its not anywhere too remote or random!!
I like theme parks also so Orlando could be fun...though I had so much fun last time at Cedar Point which I plan to go to again whilst Im there...maybe also visit Canada but unsure...looking for suggestions just and websites that offer cheap domestic flights etc etc.
Thanks guys though for the tips!!
Hi dorts,
If you enjoy theme parks, you may want to consider a day trip to Cincinnati to try out Kings Island. Tremendous fun, both wet and dry -- there%26#39;s a big waterpark with both low-key and high-adrenaline options, and a wide variety of rides that don%26#39;t disappoint. Whatever you decide, i hope you enjoy yourself! Cincinnati%26#39;s only about 1.5 hrs (or less, depending on speed) from Indy, so it%26#39;s easily doable in a day. The park is open from 10a to 10p.
Take care,

With the name I have, of course I%26#39;m going to say Las Vegas! Hotel prices there are very reasonable, especially starting early June. Conventions rule that town and convention season is over now. Start reading on the Las Vegas forum, loads of info there.
Also check out www.vegas.com, click on where it says %26#39;attractions%26#39; to see a list of things to do while there.
Well, I hope you have a great time whatever you do!
First, Cedar Point is the ';Rollercoaster Capital of the World'; so if you like coasters, that%26#39;s hard to beat. King%26#39;s Island in Cincinnati is a fun and convenient choice too.
Disney in Orlando is a unique and special experience. It%26#39;s not THE best to go for thrill rides. It%26#39;s more about the overall experience and is definitely worth a visit.
I actually haven%26#39;t been to Vegas, so I%26#39;ll leave advice about Vegas to the experts. :-)
This is a HUGE country, so there are so many great choice. High on most people%26#39;s lists would be the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains, the redwoods in California, national parks like Yosemite, Yellowstone, etc.
You can visit New Orleans or Charleston, South Carolina, New York City, Amish Country, quaint little towns along the Great Lakes, classic Midwestern, go to a real cattle ranch and see working cowboys out west, visit Santa Fe, New Mexico, explore the ruins of ancient civilizations in cliff dwellings, see historic forts, etc.
The list could go on and on.
As for cheap flights, I think someone else mentioned ATA and Southwest. Frontier Airlines and AirTran are other options too.
Skybus also flies out of Columbus, Ohio now, which might be an option if you%26#39;re in Ohio anyway for Cedar Point or King%26#39;s Island. It seems to only have one flight/day/destination, so they don%26#39;t have a lot of backup for their planes. That can cause problems during busy times, especially on holidays. It%26#39;s a better choice when you%26#39;re not on a super tight schedule.
I hope this helps!
Lily
