Weekend with a 10 year old

We will be visiting Indianapolis the weekend of Nov 10 %26amp; 11. I know about the Children%26#39;s Museum (love it) but wondered if there is anything else one would recommend that is unique to Indy. Also is there a skateboard park?

We are staying at the Indianapolis Marriot. Things in close proximity would be great.

btw-is Indy smoke free in restaurants? If not are there any restaurants that are smoke free?

The Indianapolis Zoo in nice and right in the heart of downtown. There is an IMAX theatre in the Indiana State museum, just down the road from the zoo.

To answer your second question, all of Marion county, which Indianapolis is located, and most, if not all the surrounding counties are smoke free in restaurants. It is kind of strange when we travel and stop at some places and get asked smoking or non.

Of course it depends on what your 10 year old likes. What fascinates one might bore another one. Here are some options:

Conner Prairie is a living history museum that I loved when I went to on a field trip as a 4th grader. It%26#39;s north of town.

White River Garden State Park is close to downtown and has a lot of attractions:

The Indiana State Museum (always has huge groups of kids on field trips when I%26#39;m there).

The Eiteljorg Museum

The zoo and conservatory

NCAA Hall of Champions

IMAX

Art Museum (There were a lot of kids on a field trip there when I was there.)

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

Eli Lilly Civil War Museum

American Super Heroes Museum

I%26#39;ve never been there, but it looks like it might be fun.

Traders Point Creamery

Eat ice cream, watch cows being milked at 4pm each day.

I LOVE the chocolate milk!

Circle Center Mall is good...seems like it has an arcade %26amp; it also has a movie theater. The IMAX theater at White River Park is great. And the zoo has both indoor %26amp; outdoor activities depending on the weather.

Seems like there%26#39;s a skateboard park on the near northwest side (not far from the art museum), but I%26#39;m not sure what it%26#39;s called or it%26#39;s exact location. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your responses. This should give us plenty to choose from!

We have both a major outdoor skateboard park (at the Major Taylor Velodrome complex), and an indoor skateboard park (about which I know nothing other than it%26#39;s on the northeast side of the city).

The Major Taylor Velodrome skateboard park is quite nice; there are usually BMX events going on and/or bike races at the velodrome and the BMX park immediately adjacent to the skateboard park, so that might add some interest ...

Back from a great weekend in your fair city! We absolutely love Indy. It is an unsung city in our opinion. The downtown area is clean and walkable and we always have a great time. The Marriott was also clean and all the staff was very friendly.

We ended up spending most of the day Sat at the Children%26#39;s Museum. We had a 10 and a 13 year old with us and I was afraid it wouldn%26#39;t hold the 13 year olds interest. Boy was I wrong. He loved it as much as our son.
