What to do in Indy in November???

My husband and I will be coming in Indy in November for the Pats vs Colts game (we are Colts fans!) for the weekend and staying at the Conrad Indianapolis. Is there anything that is a must see/do while we are there? We have both never been in Indy before and want to see and do as much as possible during our stay.

What to do in Indy in November???

Well, first off, enjoy a Colts romp over the NE Patriots (I%26#39;ll suspend disbelief for the moment, and trust that you are, indeed, a Colts fan ...).

Among the things to do on the weekend of November 2nd, 3rd, %26amp; 4th:

Comedian Lewis Black will be at the Murat Theater, in the heart of the vibrant Mass Avenue district (Saturday).

John Mellencamp will be performing at Conseco Fieldhouse (Saturday).

The Indianapolis Museum of Art is always interesting - they%26#39;ll be featuring an artist (don%26#39;t remember her / his? name) who will be taking tracings and drawings from innocuous items such as scratches on the bleachers, marks on the retaining walls, oil stains in the pits/garages, etc. from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and converting them to art. This exhibit starts the week prior to the Colts/Pats game. There is MUCH more at this museum, but this exhibit is one I%26#39;ve been looking forward to.

The Pacers play the Heat (Shaq %26amp; Dwayne Wade) on Friday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is interesting, and they typically have bus tours of the track.

You%26#39;re staying at one of the best hotels in town, smack in the middle of the weekend%26#39;s festivities. There should be a number of Colts v. Pats related events announced as the game draws closer.

Have fun - and wear your Colts blue!

What to do in Indy in November???

Even if you were a Patriot%26#39;s fan, you will find the people of the city welcoming. We are gracious, even while competitive. If you%26#39;re interested in Native American %26amp; western art, the Eiteljorg Museum is right downtown. Mass. Ave on the northeast end of downtown has lots of shops, galleries %26amp; places to eat, including the Rathskeller (German food) in a beautiful historic building designed by Kurt Vonnegut%26#39;s father.

If shopping is important, you%26#39;ll be staying next to Circle Center Mall.

Fountain Square is another fun area with galleries %26amp; restaurants on the southeast end of downtown. Radio Radio is a very hip, fun club that has live music %26amp; usually low cover charges in that area. You will have to drive to some of the areas, but the city is easy to navigate %26amp; the two art districts mentioned have free parking at night. Have fun.

... well, not all of us are so welcoming to Pats fans. Hoosier hospitality has its limits for even some of the most died-in-the-wool hoosiers. Colts v. Patriots probes those limits.

Good suggestion re: the Rathskellar! My favorite bar in town (old brick and wood bavarian affair with a great selection of draft euro and local brews. The food in the restaurant (and bar) is only passable, IMO. But the bar is not to be missed.

Seriously, ... you%26#39;re not a Pats fan, right?

Thank you for all your wonderful information.

Serious, we are Colts fans (and let me tell you, people here make it hard to be a Colts fan in New England!) We will be going to the game decked out in Blue %26amp; White. :)

Are there any good Sports Bars in the vincinity to the RCA Dome? Also, can we walk right from our hotel on a skywalk over to the Dome?

There are plenty of bars that are within easy walking distance. I don%26#39;t think you can walk inside the whole way to the dome. Hopefully that time of year the weather won%26#39;t be too bad (maybe in the 40%26#39;s by game time) For a possible tailgate party check out stable18.com

You can walk all the way from the Conrad TO the Dome in the skyways. If memory serves, you%26#39;ll have to exit the convention center and walk (exposed) to the Dome, but it%26#39;s just 200 yards or so.

I know there is a way to get into the Dome from the convention center - they are attached and often used jointly for larger conventions; but, I think they restrict or prohibit use of these hallways on game days. Ask the hotel concierge - she%26#39;ll likely know if those connections are open (or may arrange for you to be able to use them).

Just go into Circle Center Mall, walk to the halfway point in the mall and take the skyway there west to the parking garages, then take the parking garage walkway to the skyway connecting to the convention center. You%26#39;ll be following a crowd, who will then lead you through a corner of the convention center to the exit closest to the Dome.

As for sports bars in town I recomend the original unionjack pub or average joes. Those are the most authentically Indy sportsbars and are known hangouts for racers may-august.

Close to the stadium however are gladughs irish pub, the whistle stop in, and Champs Stadium Tavern.

For art close to downtown and authentically indy head to fountain square its slightly larger than mass ave and the traffic will be lighter. Gallery Penumbra, Classic Virtue, Alchemy Art and Aesthetics, Big Car, and the music rich bar RadioRadio are located there.

Champs is a nice sports bar opposite the Conrad in Circle Center Mall. There is a Rock Bottom also just a few doors down from the Conrad that is good, too.

As other people have mentioned, Mass Ave. is a great for an evening. The Rathskellar frequentlt has music outdoors in their beer garden, esp. on Friday nights. Also good along Mass Ave. are MacNivens and Chatham Tap (good bar food and great domestic and foreign beer selections), ComedySportz (improv comedy club), Scholars Inn and Agio (great food, fancier and pricier than MacNivens and Chatham Tap), the Chatterbox (jazz club), and Bazbeaux Pizza (pizza, of course).

I also recommend checking out Mass Ave. There are lots of greats shops for walking around during the day and it the neighborhood as nice character to it. I think Chatham Tap is one of the best restuarants in the area but I agree that the Rathskellar is worth checking out for drinks. Chatham Tap is a nice English style pub with great food and big flat screens for watching sports. Also it%26#39;s smoke-free until 11pm!

I recommend the wings!

  • Historic building open Sunday for first time in 108 years

I saw this news article on WTHR and thought others who enjoy beautiful old buildings as much as I do would want to see it. It%26#39;s a historic building that will be open to the public this Sunday for the first time in its108 year history. As far as I know, Sunday, Oct. 28, is the only day for the tour. The money raised from the price of tours will go to restore another historic building, a 130 year-old courthouse. What a great way to preserve our Hoosier heritage!

    www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=7274626

If you%26#39;ve ever driven on Hwy 27 south of Winchester, it%26#39;s the stately brick building on the west side of the highway close to the fairgrounds.

Historic building open Sunday for first time in 108 years

Thanks for the information. I wish I%26#39;d been able to go! That would have been interesting. I hope they raised a lot of money!

  • Downtown activities

I might accompany my husband on a business trip to Indy and I wouldn%26#39;t have a car during the day, so I was going to see what there was to do downtown during the day. He usually stays at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown. Thanks!

    Downtown activities

The Hilton Gardens is right in the middle of downtown and on a nice day pretty much everything is in walking distance. There are plenty of nice walks, museums, places to eat, and shopping. What are your interests?

    Downtown activities

I would be interested in places I could walk for breakfast and lunch. I also enjoy historical places, museums, local interests. Thanks for any suggestions!

You are definitely in the heart of everything, so you should easily find quite a few things to do.

    This link might help:

    hiltongardeninn.com/en/鈥?/a>

Since you like history, you might enjoy the Civil War Museum right at Monument Circle.

';Walking distance'; means different things to different people. According to the link above, White River State Park is about 1/3 of a mile from the hotel. If that seems like a reasonable walk to you, there is also plenty to do there, including the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, the canal walk, and the zoo (which is on the far side of the park from you). http://www.in.gov/whiteriver/index.html

You can plan your walk so that the Indiana History Museum and the Capitol Building are on your way there.

Circle Center Mall is also not far away.

For lots of great ideas, go to this site:

    www.indy.org

It gives the distance from Monument Circle and since your hotel is so close to that, you can get a relatively good idea about how far it would be from you.

    I hope this helps!

    Have a great trip!

Where to stay in Nashville first weekend of Dec.?

We have decided to go to Nashville the first weekend in Dec., but I don%26#39;t know where to stay. I liked the looks of the Cornerstone Inn and the breakfast sounded good, but they are all booked. =(

Is the Comfort Inn nice? Or Hidden Valley? We would like something nice and romantic, breakfast included is a plus and under $150/night.

Where to stay in Nashville first weekend of Dec.?

    Hi Want2travel,

I haven%26#39;t stayed at the Comfort Inn or Hidden Valley. You probably noticed that they both got very nice reviews on TA, although Hidden Valley only had one. I checked the Choice Hotels website and the Comfort Inn is listed as a platinum award winner, so that%26#39;s good too. From the pictures, it didn%26#39;t look really romantic, but it did look nice.

There have been some good threads on this topic in the past. You might want to search for ';Nashville lodging'; in the search forum box to see what you find.

I hope you have a great time in Nashville!

    Lily

Where to stay in Nashville first weekend of Dec.?

This looks nice and romantic. Their regular rates are cheaper than their package rates, but I thought this might be perfect since it even includes dinner!

    http://www.seasonslodge.com/packages.htm

The season%26#39;s lodge is all booked too. I wish Nashville had more choices on where to stay. =(

    Oh how frustrating!

I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve seen this website. Maybe it will help.

    browncountylodging.com/lodging/available.html

You might try the Artist%26#39;s Colony Inn. I%26#39;ve heard good things about it, and it looks like they have a few rooms still available for the first weekend of December.

    Good luck!

I think we might try to stay in Bloomington, there are a lot more choices and they have availability at all the hotels I checked if anyone has any suggestions there.

I%26#39;m so sorry that you%26#39;re having so much trouble finding a place! So was the Artist%26#39;s Colony Inn booked too? I knew that Nashville would be booked solid in the fall, but I thought there%26#39;d be a little break in early December.

Yes, Bloomington is much bigger and has plenty of hotels that cater to the IU crowd. The chain hotels along the highway probably aren%26#39;t going to give you a whole lot of atmosphere, but hey, a room is a room when you can%26#39;t find anything else. I was just about to suggest the hotel in the student union for a bit more atmosphere, but it%26#39;s booked.

I just checked the first weekend of December (Fri. 11/30 to Sun. 12/2) and the Brown County Inn has rooms for $109/night. It%26#39;s ranked #2 out of 7 hotels in Nashville on TA.

    Good luck!

    Lily

They also have a sweetheart package that looked like a good deal.

    http://www.browncountyinn.com/packages.html

The Comfort Inn still has a few rooms available for the first two weekends in December at an internet users rate of $89.99. That would certainly cut down on your commute time and let you enjoy your vacation more than driving in from out of town each day (not to mention save you from messing with IU traffic).

The Comfort Inn didn%26#39;t seem to have any king non-smoking rooms available.

We are looking at maybe the Hampton, Fairfield, or Holiday Inn Express in Bloomington. We really want a place with breakfast included and something faily inexpensive. The Fairfield has a romance package, but the Hampton and Holiday Inn have better reviews on this board.

I think we will just been spending Saturday in Nashville and spend Sunday driving through Parke County to see the covered bridges on our way back home so driving back to Bloomington shouldn%26#39;t be too out of the way.

Indy Is Raging Blue This Weekend

The city is as electric now as it was at the start of the playoff run last year. The November 4th Pats v. Colts game is far and away the event of the regular NFL season, and the city is GEARED UP.

I%26#39;m taking my daughter (a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the Colts, and a long-time non-fan of the Patriots ...), we have great seats (NOT cheap), and we%26#39;re planning on getting there a couple of hours early to soak up the festivities %26amp; atmosphere.

Sure, we could lose. But Darth Vader never beats Luke Skywalker -does he? ... Nahhh.

Indy Is Raging Blue This Weekend

On our Sky Sports package in England, we get some of the NFL games each week. I can%26#39;t wait because I know the Colts-Pats name will be shown over here this weekend. Oh, I miss my Colts!! GO COLTS! Do some extra cheering for me please, Dave!

PS. my son will be there!!

    Any night life?

I will be visiting MI City in October with some girlfriends. We will have a Friday night with no plans. Any suggestions on a good place to go for drinks/dinner/maybe dancing? We are in our 30%26#39;s - 40%26#39;s.

    Any suggestions are appreciated!!

    Any night life?

There isn%26#39;t much unless you want to travel about 30 min to Merrillville. If not, then I%26#39;d say go to one of the boats, either Blue Chip in Mich. City or the new Four Winds in New Buffalo.

    Any night life?

Only Blue Chip is a boat, both of those are casinos. Maybe worthy of a small splurge and a drink. Wouldn%26#39;t plan on eating there unless you win a big jackpot.

Postpone dancing. Use your feet to shuffle around for dinner %26amp; drinks. The girls thing may have you at Lighthouse Mall Outlet Shopping. Near here are the newly popular McGuiness Pub, Ryan%26#39;s Irish Pub, Matey%26#39;s Restaurant, or Maxine%26#39;s. There is AJ%26#39;s Bar %26amp; Grill which offers bands. On the south side are the multitude of normal food establishments. Maybe look for local Rodini%26#39;s Restaurant, very popular. And great Saganacki! On the Eastern side is a quaint place called Hammers. A well known pizza here is from Albano%26#39;s Villa. You%26#39;ll probably miss the best drive-in for a delicious hot dog %26amp; root beer. Don%26#39;t forget you%26#39;ll also be on the shore of Lake Michigan for a relaxing beach stroll, weather permitting. Have a great time.

PS. Here%26#39;s my go-list, which covers more summer adventures.

Thank you for the info. We are planning to go to the beach Friday afternoon. We are going to gamble Saturday night. And shop Sunday.

Has anybody been to Decoy%26#39;s? I saw it mentioned on some website.

  • Garfield Park Arts Center

How many of you guys have visted the Garfield Park Arts Center? Its located in the heart of Garfield Park and is the historic first home of the Childrens museum, former headquarters for metropolitan defense, and the one time winter home of the Indianapolis Zoo from 1930 until 1945. Five years ago Eli Lilly in cooperation with Indy Parks set about saving the space that was set to be bulldozed and after much renovation the building was once again an exhibition space, and it opened in style! The first exhibition the new center hosted was the Smithsonian%26#39;s traveling exhibition series! The year that followed included performances by grammy award winning musicians and world class art. Currently the Arts Center houses an Exhibit dedicated to Cuban Art and Culutre, entitled Viva Cuba. Including two stunning murals composed by children with the help of a guest artist within the center. For many Southsiders like myself this is a breath of fresh air and I was hoping to hear your opinions of the art center. I realy would recomend it as a travel destination as it is free and less than three miles from downtown.

    Garfield Park Arts Center

There is a first Friday opening tonight in honour of the ';Dia De Los Muertos'; or day of the dead at the Garfield Park Arts Center. The celebration is one of many in the city and this is only a hop skip and a jump from fountain square where any first friday is sure to be exciting. You simply follow shelby straight until you reach the Shelby Brach library. You turn into conservatory drive and the rest is s straight shoot. So if you are out tonight stop by and have some post Halloween fun. I intend to be there. Happy belated Halloween everyone and happy day of the dead!

    Garfield Park Arts Center

I haven%26#39;t been there yet, but it certainly looks interesting!

I saw it on your GoList, which is very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to put it together!
