I am looking for recommendations for a hotel near the Sterrett Center for the Indianapolis Marathon in October. My main concerns are that it is clean, comfortable, convenient and reasonably priced.
Thanks!
Hotel for Indianapolis Marathon (Fall)
Would the Sterrett center be on one of the college campus in town. Either University of Indianapolis or Butler University? Or Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis? Just wondering to be able to help.
Hotel for Indianapolis Marathon (Fall)
Wow the Marathon%26#39;s website sure wasn%26#39;t much help was it? Talk about your dead links.
Anyway if I were you I would stay at the Comfort Inn %26amp; suites located at 5755 N. German Church Road. It%26#39;s brand spanking new (open a year or so) and only about 2 miles from the Sterrett. Very easy to get to. Just google it. In a very good area that been revamped over the last couple years.
The hotel actually sits in an outlot of the WalMart parking lot there. Eateries available at the location are: A%26amp;W combo restaurant with KFC, Applebee%26#39;s, Dairy Queen, Rally%26#39;s,Starbucks, and several pizza places. On your way to Sterrett from there you%26#39;ll pass an International House of Pancakes on 56th Street just east of Post Road.
Fort Harrison is a gorgeous place but the neighborhoods surrounding it are pretty rough. the location of theis hotel is in an area that has experienced a lot of commercial growth so it has been wonderfully improved. Nice area to stay with everything you could need.
Good luck in the marathon!
Forgot to add that since I don%26#39;t know what direction you%26#39;re heading in from - Pendleton Pike (aka St. Rd 67) is the main drag through this area and has been under construction for about 3 years now. The main area of construction at this point is around I-465 but it will run east just a bit, so some patience will be required if you get there around rush hour at all. It%26#39;s not at all bad but I wanted you to be prepared for it. I always like knowing about road construction.
Thank you for your help! I will be coming from Dayton Ohio. I am really not familiar with the city but I think the marathon site mentioned 56th and Post as a reference point to the start area - not sure if this is on or near either campus?!?!
I really appreciate the advice about the surrounding neighborhoods and I will definately check out the comfort inn! Thanks again!
I second the Comfort Inn. Also do not go south of 56th street where the area is not very nice. Anywhere north of 56th street is OK. I believe there is an Inn at the Fort Harrison State Park which is right there at 56 %26amp; Post. That area used to be the Army base that was closed in the 90%26#39;s. Now they are building houses and commercial building revitalizing the area. Just north of 56th is the Castleton area lots of shopping restaurants and hotels. 82nd and Allisonville area. Hope this helps.
The Sterrett Center is located in the Ft. Harrison complex at 8950 Otis Avenue in Lawrence. Several places that are close to the area are listed here:
Super 8 Motel 3.8 miles from Sterrett Ctr
7202 E. 82nd St. $59-89 rate
Suburban Extended Stay 3.8 miles
8055 Bash St. $62-79 rate
Both of these are in the Castleton area which puts you near Castleton Square Shopping Center where you%26#39;ll have lots of eating choices either in the Mall itself or along 82nd St.
