Okay, y%26#39;all got me thinking about food and of course, chocolate must logically follow. So...
best places for chocolate in Indy metro. I say metro because Donaldson%26#39;s off of I-65 and State Road 39 is probably one of the best! Their mint meltaways are fantastic and the come in milk AND dark.
David Allen Chocolatier is just down 39 in Lebanon proper and he has unique candies which are great! He also has a chocolate of the month club.
An Indiana chain, South Bend Chocolate Company, has the best fudge for a chain, but Illinois Street Food Emporium has fresh daily made fudge by the same guy for maybe 20 years.
I wish the See%26#39;s at the airport had a fresh pick case and not just prepackaged.
Okay, everyone, lets brainstorm and maybe we can put it to a vote.

I%26#39;m a See%26#39;s addict, you are right, it is too bad they don%26#39;t have a fresh pick case! They do or at least they used to have those in some of their west coast locations.

Does it have to be Indianapolis or can it include all of Indiana? If it can include the rest of Indiana, then I nominate Ghyslain in Union City. They%26#39;re delicious and pretty. I got a box for my birthday, and it was the first time I%26#39;ve ever been inspired to take a picture of chocolate!

I love chocolate, so I%26#39;m glad you started this thread! I can%26#39;t wait to read the other posts!
Lily that makes me smile-taking a photo of chocolates! That is b/c when we were in Italy I was so MESMERIZED by the cases of gelato that I had to take a photo and my husband is still giving me a hard time about it. Food can be beautiful!
Okay, I know this about chocolate. My vote is South Bend Chocolate Company, more particularly the Chocolate Cafe at the circle. I like it b/c it has more than chocolates and I%26#39;m all about variety. Mint meltaways my favorite but I really like they%26#39;re chocolate covered pretzels and raisins. Here%26#39;s what%26#39;s odd...I am a dark chocolate fanatic but when it comes to chocolate covered I prefer milk chocolate. Hmmm.
Yes, the See%26#39;s still have the best fresh pick case around out west. Also samples which make it even better. I like Abbott%26#39;s candy in Greenwood. There is no bad chocolate in my opinion.
I%26#39;m gonna throw in DeBrands of Fort Wayne. A wide range of milk, dark, and other chocolates in a variety of ';formats';. Small and large truffles (the large ones in the style of Schmidts truffles), along with small connoisseur chocolates with exotic ingredients (saffron, chili, gold leaf, etc.) - all of the highest quality.
Their dark chocolate turtles alone are worth driving from Indy to Ft. Wayne.
They used to have a store (retail sales %26amp; dine-in chocolate dessert restaurant) at Keystone at the Crossing, but closed it when their lease ran out. Too bad ... our loss.
I will have to agree that DeBrand is probably the premier chocolate of Indiana. I stop everytime I pass Ft. Wayne just for a dark chocolate bar.
Has anyone been to the Indiana Chocolate Festival at the Arts Garden? I have yet to make it there, but not by my own choice!
I have not tried Ghyslain in Union City. Is that the same Union City that shares a basketball court with Ohio? There are some historic sites around there (underground railroad, ethnic communities that dissapeared after city industrialization, highest point in Indiana, etc.)
Have you ever tried Good%26#39;s Candy in Kennard, IN? It%26#39;s located in a yellow house and has been there for years!
We%26#39;ve ordered Christmas gifts from there for many many years. Delicious!!
You can go in and pick/choose the candies of your choice.
They%26#39;re open from October thru May, I think.
If you would like a phone number or street address/directions I would be happy to share.
Looks like we%26#39;re all going to have to take some road trips and sample around the state. I wonder if we extend to other treats, for example, ice cream, who would have tried Ivanhoe%26#39;s in Upland, Indiana. I%26#39;ve only been there once, but it%26#39;s reputation preceded itself and it definitely lived up to it. Anyone know of any other unique to Indiana treats?
If you travel to Good%26#39;s for candy you must stop by Carnegie%26#39;s Restaurant in Greenfield for a fine dining evening out. It%26#39;s Greenfield%26#39;s best kept secret:)
We have never dined there and been disappointed with the food %26amp;/or service. You must order dessert too because we have claimed their creme%26#39; brulee%26#39; as the world%26#39;s best! That claim was made by our friend who travels world-wide professionally %26amp; orders that dessert just to compare.
I have to vote for Debrands Chocolate in Fort Wayne. I am orginally from Fort Wayne and have tried other chocolates such as Godiva, South Bend Chocolate, Fannie May even chocolate from Sweden but nothing compares to Debrand%26#39;s (especially the truffles!)
I do like Albeneese Candy in Merrilville, Indiana, if you are driving on 30 West be sure to stop. They make all kinds of candy right there fresh! Try the triple dipped malted milk balls!
