My friends and I will be spending a few days at Brookville Lake in September. Is there a way that we can tour the lake without renting our own boat? There will be about 13 ladies. Any other suggestions on what we may not want to miss? I%26#39;m aware of Metamora. Thanks!
Brookville Lake
I don%26#39;t know of any commerical tours of the lake if that%26#39;s your question. Most people do take their own or rented boats out on the lake and spend the time fishing, sailing, etc.
There are a couple of beaches where you can see a small part of the lake. (I like the ones on the east side, not the one on the west.)
Ainsley%26#39;s Cafe at Kents%26#39; Harbor Marina sits at a mid-point north to south and has a great view. (Look at the pictures on my profile for a view to the south.) There%26#39;s also a golf course there.
At the southern end of the lake, there%26#39;s an overlook run by the Army Corps of Engineers that has an excellent view. There%26#39;s also a small visitors%26#39; center there if you want a little bit of history about the area, learn a bit about flood control, see preserved local animals, etc. if you get into that.
I don%26#39;t know if this is still offered in September, but at the state park, they have horseback riding and canoe rentals.
Since you don%26#39;t plan to spend your time floating on the lake, do you want information about surrounding towns? There are several quaint small towns within an hours%26#39; drive or so of Brookville Lake that I think you%26#39;d enjoy.
Let me know if you%26#39;d like to know more about that and I%26#39;ll post it.
I hope you have a great visit to Indiana!

Thanks for the info. We%26#39;ll be staying near the Egypt Hollow boat ramp. I believe the Kent%26#39;s Harbor Marina is the same as the Sagamore Marina. If so, about how long do you think it would take us to get there? We may be able rent a pontoon boat at that marina. I guess Mounds Beach would be the closest to ';Egypt';? The overlook sounds good and we%26#39;ll likely stop there at some point - perhaps on our way to/from Metamora.
I heard that the town of Liberty is cute but don%26#39;t know any more than that. If you can give info on just a couple the surrounding towns - that would be helpful. The Ertel Cellars and Chateau Pomije seem to be the closest wineries - would these be near any of the towns you have in mind?
Trying to think how we may be able to combine a couple of things in one outing.
Again, thanks.

I haven%26#39;t timed it, but I wouldn%26#39;t think it would take very long to get from the boat ramp to the marina. www.in.gov/dnr/files/brookville_trail.pdf

There%26#39;s a close one north of it too, but I think Mounds is the one I like better. They%26#39;re all pretty close anyway, so you can drive from one to the other to decide which you like best.
The overlook sounds good and we%26#39;ll likely stop there at some point - perhaps on our way to/from Metamora.
That would be good. How will you be coming up from Northern Kentucky? Depending on the route, you could also stop on the way up. Several times, I%26#39;ve picked up a sandwich in the town of Brookville and then had a picnic in the shelter at the overlook.
I heard that the town of Liberty is cute but don%26#39;t know any more than that.
Liberty is a cute little town. It%26#39;s a classic small Indiana town with a nice gazebo on the courthouse lawn. There%26#39;s a grocery store and a hardware store and a couple of other shops.

I actually haven%26#39;t been to either one, but I have really wanted to go to Chateau Pomije from what I%26#39;ve seen on their website.
Here%26#39;s the Visitor%26#39;s Bureau Website for the area right around the lake.

It%26#39;s a bit north of Brookville Lake, but I like to go to Centerville for antiques. It%26#39;s along the Old National Road. I also like the Canteberry Spa in a historic mansion in Richmond. (I%26#39;m not sure, but I think Richmond is probably also the closest place to get a Starbuck%26#39;s fix if there are caffeine addicts in the group.) www.visitrichmond.org
I was going to suggest Nashville in Brown County, but I checked and it%26#39;s supposed to be about 2 hours from the town of Brookville. (It doesn%26#39;t seem like it should be that far.) It%26#39;s a very nice place to visit if you decide you want to go. www.browncounty.com
I hope you have a great time!
Hey - thanks for your ideas! I%26#39;ll definitely look into some things. I contacted the Franklin County office 866-647-6555 and found a way to get a tour out on the lake.
That%26#39;s great! Let me know how that goes. That would be fun to do sometime!
The town of Oldenburgh is a neat historic town to vist. It is a German to in Franklin County about 20 min. away.
Also there is a closer Starbucks in Batesville witch is right next to Oldenburgh.
My friend is from Germany so Oldenburgh may be something we will want to do. Thanks!
