Labor Day weekend, 2 of my friends and I will be taking a 3 day weekend going somewhere within a 2 or 3 hour distance. We are having a problem coming up with a place to go. Looking for ideas if anyone has any. We are in the Dayton, OH area. We want to be able to stay somewhere close to bars and shopping if we wanted to go out. Looking at Indy, Louisville, Columbus. Something somewhere with a lot of things to do and see. Any ideas will be appreciated!
Girls weekend..looking for ideas
Downtown Indy is very nice and safe. For shopping, you have Circle Centre Mall, and also more boutique-type stores along Massachusetts Ave. Mass Ave also has some really good and interesting local restaurants. There are also bars downtown, a comedy club, and White River State Park, which has the Indiana State Museum, the zoo, and the Eitlejorg Museum. If you stayed downtown, most of these places would be within walking distance (Mass Ave is a little further of a walk and you might prefer to drive). Not too far from downtown is the Museum of Art, which has free admission. Also just north of downtown is the Broad Ripple area, which is known for clubs/bars, dining, and boutique shopping.

Also, the area at Keystone at the Crossing is very nice, some nice up market shopping in the mall there. It%26#39;s at the intersection of I-465 and Keystone Ave (hwy 431). It%26#39;s an easy drive from downtown as wel. I do think though that downtown area would be the best place to stay to get a lot of things accomplished without having to go far.
By all means try the Spa at French Lick--there is a casino and great hotels recently renovated. It is a great and restful destination--you will love it and the spa is a perfect girls weekend. French Lick is in Indiana south of Indianapolis.
I was born in Indianapolis, even lived in Dayton before going away to school.
Have a great time and email me if you have any questions. I love Indiana because the people are so nice--I just realized that after going back there from my home now on the East coast.
I think Indy and Louisville are both good choices. Both places offer multiple shopping locations. You could stay in downtown Indianapolis. I think one of the best restaurants in Indy is the Loon Lake Lodge. If you want a little culture you could go the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I%26#39;ve stayed off the Greenwood exit before and there is a mall there with plenty of restaurants. There are a lot of malls and hotels off of I-465. The Castleton Mall is really nice. If you want to go to an Outlet to shop then you could drive to Edinburgh Indiana which is about 45 minutes south of Indianapols. I think their website can give you a list of the shops.
If you want to go to Louisville there are a lot of places you could stay. There are two nice malls in the east end of town on Shelbyville Road. The one is Oxmoor Mall and the other is called The Mall. They are very close to each other. They both sit on either side on the Watterson Expressway I-264. You could stay off Blankenbaker Parkway. Most of the hotels in that area aren%26#39;t very old. Another unique area to go shopping at is in the Highlands. This is a section of town that is located on Bardstown Road. You can park the car and walk up and down the sidewalk to shops and restaurants. There are antique shops, clothing stores, record stores, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, etc. This is where most of Louisville%26#39;s locally owned restaurants are located. You can find just about any type of cuisine you want to eat. If you want really good pizza, I recommend that you eat at Impellizzeri%26#39;s. If you like Pacific Rim cuisine, a friend of mine recommends Asiatique. I heard Serviche is really good if you like Latin food. You could also drive down Frankfort Avenue which isn%26#39;t very far from the Highlands. You can find a few local shops and restaurants. If you like Irish food I recommend the Irish Rover. They are closed on Sundays. I don%26#39;t know that much about Columbus so I can%26#39;t help you with that one. I like to go to Nashville Indiana sometimes with friends. They have a few places to stay and you can walk around town and go in and out of a lot of shops. It%26#39;s located a half hour off of the Columbus Indiana exit on I-65. Columbus Indiana is between Louisville and Indianapolis. I%26#39;m sure wherever you end up going you will have a lot of fun. I hope you all enjoy your trip!!
For Indy I would definitely recommend staying downtown because you would be in walking distance of Circle Centre, restaurants, and bars. I agree with heading to Edinburgh for shopping at the outlet mall.
My girlfriends and I did a Labor Day weekend getaway last year and choice to stay in a cabin outside of Nashville, IN. That was a nice trip. We walked around Nashville and it%26#39;s shops before heading to the cabin. Our cabin had a pool and a hottub so we went to the grocery store bought our food and adult beverages and spent the rest of the weekend hanging out at the cabin.
As far as Louisville I guess I would recommend staying somewhere close to downtown as well. If you are looking for the bars I know there is 4th Street Live which usually offers some good options.
