One day in Indianapolis -- lunch, bookstores, etc?

I%26#39;m headed to Indianapolis next week -- going to a concert at the Music Mill, then staying over and taking the next day to look around a bit.

I know the city to some degree -- I used to go up with my parents a lot to go to the antique shows at the State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis Ice games, the Children%26#39;s Museum, etc., although that%26#39;s been 20 years now. I have family in Carmel, so I know the north/northeast suburban side of town pretty well, but haven%26#39;t spent much time in the city.

The night of the concert, I%26#39;ll be leaving from work, so will probably just make it into town in time to eat a quick dinner and go to the show. The next day, my plans so far are to go to the Half Price Books stores, go to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, go to Luna Music, and look around Broad Ripple Village, maybe go downtown and take some pictures. Any other parts of town I should explore?

Lunch suggestions? I%26#39;m pretty open to different cuisines, would be looking to spend %26lt;$15, and always like trying some place unique to that city. I%26#39;m guessing I%26#39;ll most likely be in Broad Ripple around lunch time, so somewhere around there would be best.

Also, are there any used bookstores worth checking out in addition to the Half Price stores?

Finally, I feel ashamed to be asking this, but I just want to make sure I%26#39;m clear -- Indianapolis is in the same time zone as Ohio *year round* now, correct?

Eat at Yats at 54th and College for lunch. Good food at great prices. I like the Gumbo and the Jambalaya but you really can%26#39;t go wrong with anything that sounds good to you. Usually they%26#39;ll let you sample.

And yes, because people in this state are still confused, we now share everything with Ohio onward east, including Daylight Savings Time.

Massachusetts Avenue has some art galleries, unique shops and restaurants worth checking out.

Don%26#39;t be ashamed! I lived in Cincinnati for years and had family in Indiana, and it was truly confusing for me when Indiana was the same as Ohio part of the year and an hour different the other part. It%26#39;s much simpler now!

If you have time, the area around the canal is great. There are several museums, great views of the city, the zoo, etc. http://www.in.gov/whiteriver/

Although it%26#39;s not very close to Broad Ripple, eating at the Eiteljorg Museum by the canal can be fun and pretty inexpensive.

Oh, and since you%26#39;ll be at the art museum, Puck%26#39;s is a great place to eat. I think it%26#39;s not that expensive for lunch. Definitely make time to wander around the gardens too!

I hope you have a great time!

I recommend Bauzbeaux pizza and or Union Jack since you will be in Broad ripple any way. There are some other places also The corner wine bar and Renee%26#39;s are good. I could be forgetting some others. Enjoy.

The Canal District is a great place to walk around. Downtown is walkable enough you could see Mass. Ave, then go to central downtown (the War Memorials, etc.) then meander around the canal, or vice versa.

Thanks for all the good suggestions, everyone. :) Looking forward to the trip.

Shortened Indianapolis trip report:

Thanks to all who offered suggestions. My trip got unfortunately truncated due to a situation at work that necessitated my being back in Ohio, so I only got to spend about half a day in Indianapolis on Thursday.

I missed out on the art museum, and was in Broad Ripple before much was open, so I didn%26#39;t get to see much there. I did buy lots of CDs at Luna, and spent some time walking around Mass Ave., which is a pretty cool little neighborhood. I got all my Mother%26#39;s Day shopping done at At Home in the City, which is a pretty neat shop. I also liked all the public art scattered around the neighborhood.

I saw enough to realize that I do need to get back some weekend when I can spend a whole day. I%26#39;ll probably wait until after the end of May, though ;)

The concert at the Music Mill was great, as well. It was a worthwhile trip; just wish it could have been longer.
