This is our first trip to Michigan City and we are taking the family. Can anyone tell me which beach is the nicest for a family. Also are there places where we could rent a beach umbrella? We are taking a baby and need to keep her out of the sun.
Thanks!
beachesHope you enjoy MC.

Many of your questions may be answered at the go-list provided. Check out the many links %26amp; photos. You may be here during part of the Summer Festival events in July(?)
Recommended: the public beach at Washington Park. Easiest access, family friendly. Daily parking fee ($3 weekday, $6 weekend). Bring everything you need. No rentals. Improvise simple shade with a baby buggy and an old sheet. Unless you%26#39;re a food glutton, ease the tummy growls with non-cool healthy junk-food snacks. Save the cooler for lots of ice and liquid refreshments. Have a good meal later. Don%26#39;t bring lots of junk! Relax and have fun.
Keep posting if you have further questions. If you spot the best tan on the beach having a beer, stop by and say Hi.

beachesThe Washington Park beach is clean and safe. There are lifeguards.
You can set up a small shade tent or purchase a beach unbrella at Wal Mart for the baby. Just bring lots of lotion, towels, cooler with water bottles and a picnic lunch.
Have fun!
Washington Park is nice, or take a quick 15 minute drive west on US 12 to State Road 49, where the official Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is. There are lots of hiking trails here, huge dunes, and the beach goes for miles. I prefer this one to MC%26#39;s beaches. It%26#39;s much more family oriented too and has a huge historic pavilion with a concession stand, showers and bathrooms. If you do an Indiana Dunes search on Wikipedia, you can see a photo of the beach and the pavilion.
