Im visitng Indianapolis to stay with friends (and go to a wedding) for a few weeks at the start of June. Porblem is they are all pretty busy working during the day so I will have to entertain myself for some of the days. My friend lives in an apartment complex with a pool so thats cool but I want to do some serious shopping and sightseeing whilst Im there. Is public transport good/safe in Indianapolis and whats the weather usually like at the start of June?

Public transportation exists and is safe. But it%26#39;s not good. The area of coverage, frequency of stops, and cleanliness are all significantly substandard/inadequate.
You pretty much need to rent a car if you want to travel outside of walking distance (although taxi service is decent - albeit a bit expensive).

Where is the apartment? Downtown Indy would probabaly be the best as far as allround shopping/sightseeing. The weather sould be sunny and in the eighties
Public transport is not good in Indianapolis, very different than in the UK and Europe. I do hope the apartment is in the downtown area so you can get to many places by walking or short cab rides. Cabs aren%26#39;t as easily accessible in Indiana as you are probably used to where you live. You mentioned a pool in the apartment complex, that tells me that most likely it is not downtown. Perhaps your friend can help you sort out transport to get you places while they are at work.
Temperatures in early to mid June can be anywhere from 20-22 C up to 25-26C.
I too wish there were a better way to get around Indy, especially for our visitors because it%26#39;s such a great city!
Even though you may have to take a cab, remember that relatively, it may not seem as expensive to you as it does to us because you will get more bang for your buck here. Let us know where the apartment complex is and we can surely give you some great tips to help you make the most out of your visit.
Also, what type of shopping are you looking for? That might help us direct you to some great places as well. Definitely you will want to go downtown and once there, it%26#39;s easy to walk around wherever you want to go.
June is one of the best weather times of the year in my opinion. (Hence all the weddings!)
Gabby-
did you change your shoes or am I crazy?
Thanks, you guys are so helpful. My friend lives near Allisonville Rd where it meets E 56th Street, near Lake Maxinhall. Does this help? As for shopping, just the usually clothes and gifts etc etc and places to eat nice lunches and see some sights also. I like Cirle Centre and Castleton Mall the last time I was there, if thats what they are called! Just asking the question because that last time i was there, I pretty much got rides everywhere but this time I will be on my own quite a bit during the daytime, hence the need for taxis/public transport.
