While sitting around here at work today I got to thinking about some of my favorite dining establishments in the metro area down through the years. Some are still here while others are just wonderful memories. I%26#39;ll toss out a few %26amp; then ask for some of your remembrances. What I%26#39;m looking for are places where you have actually eaten %26amp; not some place you%26#39;ve seen/heard about that is great.
The TeePee--my experiences were with the 38th St location at the Fairgrounds. Was from a small town in Madison County so coming to Indy for burgers %26amp; fries was a real treat.
Old Spaghetti Factory--I love spaghetti %26amp; the atmosphere at the Indy location is wonderful. Just wish I didn%26#39;t have to wait so long.
Hilltop Steakhouse--located on Michigan Road about 52nd Street, this quaint little place had absolutely wonderful fillets that seemed to melt in your mouth. It%26#39;s been gone for years but used to take my Butler dates there since it was close to campus.
Rock Cola Cafe--on Brookville Rd, this 50s decor diner has superb grilled terderloins, Philly steaks, mouth-watering shakes, and huge stacks of fries/rings. The only drawback is the hours from 7:00-2:45 so breakfast %26amp; lunch only. The most bang for the buck I%26#39;ve found in town.
Flakey Jake%26#39;s--another burger chain that has also bitten the dust, they were on E. Washington St. %26amp; had great burgers %26amp; the best baked potatoes in town (IMHO). Never understood why they closed because they always were busy when I was there...and that was weekly!

There used to be Jerry%26#39;s in Greenwood. One of the best staek house was The Fireside on East Street by Garfield Park. For great prime rib at a great price was Coach and Horses at the corner of Raceway and Rockville Road on the westside. It%26#39;s gone but the original owner has The Coachman at I 70 and the Plainfield exit which is just as good. Also in Avon is Cazuela%26#39;s. Fantastic Mexican food. It%26#39;s right across from The Red Lobster on Rockville Road. Still good but not as good as it used to be is The Mug N Bun on east 10th and Lynhurst. Still the best O Rings in town. Sounds like I%26#39;m getting old by saying ';iit%26#39;s not as good as it used to be';

One of my favorite things about Rock Cola Cafe was the lady serving the food. Haven%26#39;t been there in years but she was very fine on the eyes.
The best thing about Flakey Jake%26#39;s had to be their fresh baked buns.
I remember going to the Stable Inn on 71st st, just west of 37, loved it. Another favorite used to be the Kendall Inn for when we wanted a nicer place to go. That was many, many moons ago! Today%26#39;s favorite is Sullivan%26#39;s.
There used to be a Stable Inn in Greenwood at Madison and County Line. They did have good food. Also used to have live music on Fri/Sat nights. Does anyone remember the Paramount Music Palace?
I remember when it opened! You are also right, Stable Inn had entertainment, good too!
Ah yes! The Paramount Music Palace had a great atmosphere! They closed years ago %26amp; the building was razed to make way for a Mexican restaurant I believe. The link below will bring back some memories of the outstanding keyboard people that played the Mighty Wurlitzer. I think people went more for the music than the food.

Wow, the TeePee, that brings back memories.
The Pawn Shop was central to many of my Butler Univ. and young adult evenings. The King Cole was a great restaurant and Indy dining fixture just off the Circle (that died a very slow, painful death). I also miss the old Hawthorn Room near Methodist Hospital. And now the Glass Chimney in Carmel is closing (closed?).
I%26#39;m getting old ...
... and Gabby and I have had this ';argument'; off and on for awhile. I like Sullivans, but I prefer Indy native (non-chain) Peterson%26#39;s.
That reminds me, ... I miss two other GREAT restaurants: Something Different, and Fletcher%26#39;s (both closed due to divorces of owners). Fletcher%26#39;s reopened in Atlanta - but was never quite the same (although was still very good).
I miss those places, too! The Glass Chimney is closing or closed? Oh no! What happened?
Is Chez Jean still in Mooresville? Chanteclair at the Holiday Inn at the airport?
There used to be a drive in diner, I think called Dave%26#39;s Fabulous 50s on the West side. The servers wore roller skates and poodle skirts; super fun. I think it%26#39;s a gas station now. Ah, and The Mug %26amp; Bun. Still around and still great.
