Lodging, etc. with wheelchair

Visitng sister who is in a wheelchair with MS this summer.

Love to find a cabin, resort, etc. with wheelchair accessibility. Even if she can%26#39;t stay all night be nice to have her come hang out and get our of her apt. A pond, pool, lake, food, anything....

Any suggestions of something in the area that would make things easier for someone in a wheel chair?

I%26#39;m not very familiar with that area. I%26#39;m only posting because so far you haven%26#39;t had any answers.

You might want to contact the parks department and see which areas are accessible.

You might check at the South Bend visitors bureau.

If they don%26#39;t have information for you, I wonder if the Notre Dame Admissions office would have information about that. I know it%26#39;s not their job, but surely they have that question from prospective students and families a lot. At the very least, they might be able to point you in the right direction for resources.

When you do find places, it would be great if you posted them here so that we%26#39;ll have that information for the next time that question comes up! (I really think it would be nice if TA had a category where people could list that. It would help so many people!)

How did your holiday visit go? Did you end up finding something that worked for you?

Good luck!

I believe the cabins at Potato Creek State Park are wheelchair accessible. I%26#39;ve been inside some of them and know they are open enough to easily self propel a wheelchair. Potato Creek State Park is about 7-8 miles South of South Bend on State Rd. 4. There is quite a bit for the family to do at the park, which has a small lake with boat, canoe rental, beach, bike and hiking trails, nature center, etc. At this late date cabins might be booked for the summer, but they occasionally have cancellations.
