Long weekend with teenage daughter. Any ideas?

My daughter and I take a short trip together every summer and we are looking for something new this year. We have been to Indianapolis a couple times, Chicago a couple times, Ft. Wayne a couple times and Indiana Beach many, many times. We have enjoyed all of these trips, but would like to go someplace we haven%26#39;t been yet. Any suggestions for a short 3-4 day trip with a 14 year old girl?

How about Brown County? You can shop and eat in Nashville, and if you both like the outdoors you can go hiking or picnic in Brown County State Park. I believe they also offer horseback riding somewhere. And if you don%26#39;t find enough to occupy your entire 3-4 days, Bloomington is very close by. They have an actual mall, which I think every 14 year old girl enjoys!

Brown County is a good idea!

I was also thinking that you might enjoy hanging out at one of the beach towns along Lake Michigan. I%26#39;ve been to South Haven and Douglas/Saugatuck. If the two of you enjoy artsy things those are very nice places, and I love the beach. The towns are very close to each other so it%26#39;s easy to stay in one place and drive to the other. There are also lots of great orchards. (Not too many kids are into fruit, but I wanted to mention it since South Haven is the ';Blueberry Capital of the World.';)

Cincinnati, Ohio would also be fun. There%26#39;s King%26#39;s Island, Coney Island, riverboat rides, Newport Aquarium, and lots of interesting museums. The art museum is free and in beautiful Eden Park. That is right by Mt. Adams which has some cute shops and a nice view of the city. Newport on the Levy on the Kentucky side of the river would probably appeal to your daughter too. There%26#39;s also the Aronoff Center which has shows downtown, and in the summer there are wonderful outdoor concerts at Riverbend which is right by Coney Island. You can even go horseback riding and rent paddleboats at Winton Woods park.

There%26#39;s also plenty of shopping too!

Just a few thoughts:

Cedar point in Sandusky- Great amusement park. Could head to the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland afterward.

Mammoth Cave in Kentucky

Canoe trip on Sugar Creek to Turkey Run State Park and Shades State Park

I appreciate all of your suggestions. I actually had been thinking about Nashville/Brown County so I think I%26#39;ll check into that a little more.

Places in Ohio really wouldn%26#39;t be too bad either, but I%26#39;d like to stick to no more that a 3-4 hour drive if possible. I don%26#39;t really enjoy ';road time'; unless I%26#39;m riding instead of driving. That%26#39;s why I liked Chicago so much. We just hopped the train to get there and walked and took the bus around town.

You should have fun in Brown County. For future trips, we just squeaked in for you driving limit:

According to Rand McNally from Plymouth, Indiana

to Cincinnati, OH is 4 hours

to Sandusky, OH is 3 hours and 50 minutes

to South Haven, MI is 1 hour and 35 minutes

to Saugatuck, MI is 1 hour and 50 minutes

to Nashville, IN in Brown County is 3 hours 25 minutes

I hope this helps!

We always enjoy renting a cabin from Hills o%26#39; Brown when we stay in Brown County. Be sure to get one with a hot tub! Very relaxing!

Cincinnati also a good short trip. Zoo, Kings Island, the Beach, Coney Island.

Have fun!

although I have never been there, I have heard that Holiday World is a pretty nice park and It has a water park. My sister went there a couple years ago with her pre-teen(I think she was like 11 or 12) and they all had a good time. I remember reading somewhere that they give free soda to all their guests. Now I%26#39;m not sure where I heard about that but that would be nice cinsidering how much people spend on that stuff on a trip!

We just returned from 5 days at a newer luxury log cabin in Brown County IN. My husband and I and 2 kids had a wonderful time here. We%26#39;ve stayed at many cabins in that area but this is by far the nicest one. It%26#39;s in a great location for either Nashville or Bloominton and the Brown County State Parkis just down the road. It has 3 bdrms, 2 baths and a 2 story wood burning fireplace plus a large Hot Tub and pool table! The owners provide everything that most rental cabins dont have. The kids loved the outdoor firepit to roast marshmellows. I loved the master suite. It even had a huge Jacuzzi and fireplace that you can enjoy from the bath or bedroom.

Nashville is a great town for shopping in all the quaint little shops along the strip. There%26#39;s lots of restaurants and activities. We went boating on Lake Monroe (it%26#39;s still a bit chilly yet though!)

Went to the Nashville Opry concert, and saw a play at Coachlight music theater that the kids really enjoyed too. There is a Dance barn down the road from the cabin that was so much fun! They have a country band, good food and kids are welcome. We even tried some line dancing! Has a ball!

You would enjoy Nashville!
