Public Swimming Beach in Portage?

Our family will be staying in Portage for one day and I am wondering if there is a public swimming beach we could visit. We%26#39;ll be staying at the Country Inn %26amp; Suites in June.

You won%26#39;t be far from the Indiana Dunes. The only thing, the water in June is usually still very cold.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. That%26#39;s OK that it%26#39;s cold. We%26#39;d just like the kids to be able to play in the sand and see the water, maybe dip their toes in. How would we get there from the Country Inn %26amp; Suites? Thanks again!

You%26#39;ll be right off of 249. Just take 249 north to 12 north and follow the signs to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

You%26#39;ll be looking for the Indiana Dunes STATE PARK. Sometimes confusing, this park is within the boundaries of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Head East on Hwy 12, to Hwy 49 (4 miles?). Hwy 49 North becomes the entrance to the State Park. Not sure of the current daily admission fee. Good luck on a nice day for some sand and splashing. No problem, as your hotel also has a great indoor pool area for big %26amp; little kids.
