What's the latest on visas for U.S. tourists to Brazil?

O.K. you regulars. . .I know one of you must know the answer to this:

When we applied for visas to visit Brazil for a Nov. trip last yr., there was talk of changes in the works in the U.S. to drop visa requirments to our country for Brazilian tourists. This, in turn, was supposed to result in U.S. residents not having to have them (or, at least, not having to pay such a high amount for them). I read an article in a travel column about 4 or 5 mos. ago saying this was all going to take place very soon. Was it just more wishful thinking?

We are maybe going to be in Brazil for a short time next March. I just looked at our visas yesterday and our%26#39;s were issued for just one year and expire in Nov. I REALLY had hoped we had been given the 5 yr. kind, but that seems to be the luck of the draw from what I read last fall. I feel cheated at having to spend another $100 to get one. Is there a way to renew for less?

I don%26#39;t know the answer to your question, but just to let you know, this is a forum on the town of Brazil, Indiana not the country of Brazil.
