We are looking for a 3-day getaway, probably to Indiana. We are thinking maybe Nashville, Madison, or Michigan City.
We like hiking, parks, beaches, lighthouses, museums and other historical sites, and shopping.
We are both in our mid 20s, but we don%26#39;t care about casinos, bars, or nightlife.
Which of these places do you think would be best, or does anyone have any other suggestions within 5 hour drive of St.Louis? Thanks.
Where to go for Indiana getaway?
Oops, I forgot to mention Indianapolis as another possiblity!
Where to go for Indiana getaway?
post in the indianapolis forum. you will get lots of responses. There are plenty of options in Indy. Check out Indy.org for more information.
I can only comment on the Michigan City area since my sister has lived there for 25+ years and we have visited her often. Mt. Baldy (a gigantic sand dune)is in a state park nearby with gorgeous uninterrupted views of miles of beaches and even the Chicago skyline on a clear day. There is an historic mansion in downtown Mich City and a very large outlet mall (Lighthouse Place) so there must be a lighthouse in the area!
This is an excellent area for blueberry picking and peaches. There is a winery just up the road (I-94) in Michigan. Also the Warren Dunes State Park (MI)with lots of hiking trails. You can even campout there. Lots of art galleries.
Madison is a great town but probbly 7-8 hours from St Louis.
Madison is about 280 miles from our house, so it should only take about 4-5 hours to go there.
Just found the best place ever for adults only. I just booked it for July 4th %26amp; July 5th. It is called Serenity Springs in Laporte In. Look on this website. Heaven. We both are gamblers %26amp; I am so casinoed out to death. I found this %26amp; immediately booked this. I can%26#39;t wait to go %26amp; just relax, fish, and chill. FYI Check It Out!!!

Go to Metamora, Indiana. This is an 1838 Canal Town. Amazing Place!!! It%26#39;s like steping back in time. They have an operating canal boat pulled by horses, operating grist mill, train and lots of shops, many in very old buildings and log cabins. It is so relaxing and quaint. check out the website www.metamoraindiana.com. You won%26#39;t be sorry.
Well of the three cities you%26#39;ve picked - you can do all of those activities in Madison. Lot%26#39;s of history and old home museums in such a beautiful river town. It%26#39;s a bit like walking back in time, especially the Lanier Mansion. A beautiful main street with lots of fun shopping. Southern Indiana river country is so pretty, and right across the river from Madison are more beautiful little river towns in Kentucky.
Just slightly out of town to the west is Clifty Falls State Park. One of my favorites in the state. Very hilly and some challenging trails to the falls. A wonderful nature center too.
Nashville is a major tourist trap in the fall. Cute town that will take you days to go into all the shops. I%26#39;m not a big shopper myself so to me the stuff in the stores gets to looking the same after awhile. The town sits at the edge of Browne County State Park which is absolutely gorgeous. Lots of fun trails here too. I still prefer Clifty though.
If you%26#39;ve never been to Indianapolis, you%26#39;d love it. However, Madison has the history and charm. If it were me I think I%26#39;d head there, it has everything you want.
Choosing which place to go is a difficult one with these choices. Do you want the city scene or a more laid-back scene? That makes a big difference. Nashville is a neat village-type place. Some call it the ';Little Smokies.'; Madison is an old river town. I love the antique places and the wineries in the area. Also, Clifty Falls is a beautiful state park with a great inn. Indianapolis has many different things to do. The museums are great and the shopping is very varied. I have never been to Michigan City, but I have been to the southwest area of Michigan. Lake Michigan can be so relaxing. Good luck with your decision and enjoy your time away.
Nashville, IN is a great getaway town. It%26#39;s one of our favorites for a short trip. Has tons of shopping, dining etc. There are several playhouses and musicals theaters with great shows, along with the ';little'; Nashville Opry where there are top entertainers in concert. Brown County State Park is HUGE with mile of trails along with Hoosier State Forest and Yellowwood State Forest/Lake. Lake Monroe is a beautiful lake nearby for boat rentals, swimming %26amp; fishing.
We stayed at this new luxury cabin last time and loved the place. Really romantic for couples and lots for families to do. Very convenient to everything. www.adventurewoodlogcabin.com
