Hello,
My friend and I (I%26#39;m 29, she%26#39;s 28) are heading in to Indianapolis this weekend for a much needed ';girls weekend';. She has a conference to attend in town and I%26#39;m tagging along to do things with her at night. We are staying at the Marriott Indianapolis East (21st street).
Friday night we are planning on seeing the ';Sex in the City'; movie so that nights covered. I%26#39;m in charge of finding cool things for us to do on Saturday night after 5pm.
I thought the Indianapolis Symphony would be kinda fun. Both of us are in to a variey of music and have been to the Symphony in our respective cities (Columbus and Cleveland, OH). Anyone have an negative things to say about the Indianapolis Symphony? I%26#39;ve seen reviews on the ';Slippery Noodle'; too - that looks fun also.
Can anyone else suggest anything else I may be missing? Mass Avenue looks up our alley too. We%26#39;d be interested in classier bars than just sports bars and beer joints. Wine bars maybe?
Any information you can suggest would be great. Because we are staying outside the city we will more than likely be taking a taxi where we go (Neither of us want to be responsible for driving while impaired). I%26#39;ve noticed that the Public Transporation System in Indy is about as good as the one here in Columbus! I%26#39;d like to go somewhere where there%26#39;s a ample amount of things to do within walking distance of where the taxi drops us off.
Thanks to whomever responds in advance!
Girls weekend in Indianapolis
I went to the University of Indianapolis and spent 4 years living there (I%26#39;m 25 now).
I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;re into baseball, but the Indianpolis Indians games are really fun to go to. Cheap, beautiful view of the city, and a good time.
The Noodle is supposed to be fun. YOu mentioned classy - I%26#39;m not sure how classy this one is... I%26#39;ve never been though so I%26#39;m not sure.
Crackers is fun - a comedy club (http://www.crackerscomedy.com/).
Also I enjoy going to Jillian%26#39;s (http://indianapolis.jilliansbilliards.com/). They have bowling, billiards, arcade, restaurant, etc.
I don%26#39;t know how you feel about walking but I%26#39;ve always done downtown on foot. If you stay basically in the center of the city it%26#39;s not too far to walk to most things.
I hope that helps a little. The bars in Broad Ripple are good too. It%26#39;s north of the city - you%26#39;d have to take a taxi.

This is a very useful website:
www.indy.org
Look under nightlife for ideas for the types of bars you%26#39;d like. You can also search by location.
I hope this helps and you have a great time!
Not a lot to do around 21st Street. I would go downtown via taxi. Mass Ave would probably be your best bet from what you decribed wht you like. ISO is great. If you get downtown around 5:00 you might take a stroll along the canal. I%26#39;ve heard the little bar inside the Conrad Hilton is very nice. McCormick%26#39;s and Scmick%26#39;s inside The Hilton on Illinois and Market is real nice also. I think appetizers fo 4-6 are half price. Near mass Ave is also The Ratzkeller.
The Slippery Noodle should not be missed if you like the blues! I can%26#39;t say enough about it. Mass Ave is great because you can just hop from place to place checking out all the establishments. Everything in downtown Indy is close together and walkable.
A classy wine bar can be found at the Canterbury Hotel. It%26#39;s a fabulous place, nice and quiet. Old English feel. They have the largest wine collection in the city if I%26#39;m not mistaken. They even let you hold your own mini wine tasting if you%26#39;d like.
Nicky Blaine%26#39;s Cocktail Lounge is another good spot. It%26#39;s got that thick cushioned seating, is dark inside and has that laid-back swanky feel.
The bar scene in the Broad Ripple area is a huge draw for crowds in their 20%26#39;s %26amp; 30%26#39;s. Very trendy area, lots of fun. Again, you can walk from place to place and check them all out. Pretty area to visit especially when the weather is nice.
We%26#39;ve also got a ';Howl at The Moon'; here, if you%26#39;re familiar with the one in Cleveland.
As mentioned before, the Canal Walk is absolutely gorgeous. So many beautiful views of the city. That whole area is connected so once you start walking you find yourself pretty far from where you started!
In the area of the Canal is Victory Field where the Indians play and across from that is the Indiana State Museum where the IMAX theatre is housed. Across from the ISM is also the Eiteljorg Museum, and the White River State Park %26amp; Gardens. In this area you can rent bikes, paddle boats, bicycle carts, etc. Fun, fun area if you%26#39;re looking for something physical to do. You%26#39;ll see a lot of interesting people.
Just a bit north of downtown is the Art Museum which is wonderful with beautiful grounds for walking also.
While there is nothing right near your hotel, you are staying at a very good place for jumping off by cab. I-70 and I-465 are literally right out the door.
I wish you beautiful weather and a great time:)
