Going to a conference at the end of the month, at the Indy Conv. Center. Couldn%26#39;t believe the price gouging of the caterers, offering a simple Box Lunch at the expo floor for $20 per day. I complained to the convention organizers, and they said it actually costs $22 and they are subsidizing for the convenience of the people who don%26#39;t want to leave the convention center!
I don%26#39;t mind walking a few blocks, in fact prefer that for real food for more like $10 or less for lunch. Any good suggestions for nearby lunch?
Lunch near Convention Center (Downtown)There%26#39;s a bunch of good places to eat lunch in that area.
There%26#39;s the chains: RAM, Rock Bottom, P.F. Changs, Palomino, and The Capital Grille (my favorite lunch spot).
And then there%26#39;s the locally owned: Harry %26amp; Izzy%26#39;s (a bit more than $10 - as will be Palomino and The Capital Grille), damn ... I%26#39;m sure there are plenty of locally owned lunch spots near the convention center, but the only locally owned places I go to lunch are on Mass. Ave. - about ten blocks away - - others will have to chime in here ...
There%26#39;s a food court in the Circle Center Mall - immediately across from the Convention Center.
Lunch near Convention Center (Downtown)How valuable is your time to you. Any where you chosse away from the convention will be a few blocks of walking. That said there are plenty of places White castle, subway, steak and shake, the food court along with plenty of sit down restaurants that will be busy at lunch time with local bussiness folk. When you get here in town for your convention check out places before so that you have an idea of what you would like and then choose one. steak and shake is two or three blocks east on maryland street of the convention center. subway is on washington street a block north of the convention center.
Thanks for the great tips. How are the buses in town? I see a 7-day bus pass is available for $17, so that might be worth considering. I don%26#39;t mind at all getting away from the convention center, as it provides opportunity to see the city a bit.
The Weber Grill is great for lunch (my co-workers and I frequent it). It%26#39;s also up towards Circle Centre Mall. I recommend the grilled pizzas (which are under the appetizer portion of the menu) - one costs $7.50 and is a perfect sized lunch for one person. Even closer to the convention center is Patachou on the Park. It%26#39;s in the Simon Property building at the corner of Washington and Capitol. It has really good sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Forgot about the Weber Grill - and agree, it%26#39;s very good (and not quite as expensive as the Capital Grille - which is on the walk to the Weber Grill).
Buses around town are not a preferred way to travel. And ALL of these restaurants are within a very easy 3 or 4 block walk from the convention center. Even walks WITHIN the convention center are 1 to 3 blocks long).
