We will be visiting Turkey Run for the first time in May. We will spend two nights there and would like to know which trails we shouldn%26#39;t miss when we hike. Also, besides the lodge what are some good restaurants nearby? Anything else you can offer on the area. Thanks!!!
Turkey Run State Park trails
Hi Mi.Flower-Child,
With 2 days you will be able to hike all of the trails. You should be aware that trail 3 has wooden ladders to climb up. They can be slick especially if it is muddy.
Here is a link to the park map with trails: in.gov/dnr/…turkey_run_trail.pdf
If it is warm while you are there, you might consider a canoe trip.
I am not sure about restaurants nearby. We always take a picnic lunch. Maybe others could help on this.
May is a great time to be at Turkey Run. Enjoy your trip!

rwdw,
well, it looks like we will have enough time to cover the park and trails. But ladders, hmmmmm. We are looking forward to visiting next month. Thanks for writing!
Small world, my younger son was born in Grand Rapids (many moons ago, lol) and when my boys were growing up in Carmel we went to Turkey Run all the time, we all loved it and I hope your experience there is as good as ours were. Enjoy!
Hi gabbygambler....small world, huh? We are looking forward to our first visit to Turkey Run. We have heard so many good things about it. Thanks for writing!
It%26#39;s usually warm enough in May to canoe. As far as restaurants, we usually eat at the lodge, I don%26#39;t believe there%26#39;s much else around other than Subway and the like.

I have heard the food is good at the lodge so we will probably enjoy eating there. Thanks for writing!
I never miss trail 3 or 5....and actually 3 is the MOST fun after a rain....wear old shoes and be careful!!
I always bring a picnic as there is not that much in the area besides the lodge....I do remember some sort of general store place if you go a bit south on 41 past the turn off to the park
Canoing sugar creek is also fun if the water is high enough....tubing can be fun too if you%26#39;re not afraid of snakes!!
Fizzer,
Thanks for the trails advice!! We will look into those ones you mentioned. We now know about the dining in the area too. Thanks for writing!!
Just want to say that we had a wonderful time visiting Turkey Run State Park in May. We hiked trail numbers 5,6,7,8,10 and 11 and they were manageable. Some of these trails were awesome! We enjoyed our meals at the lodge and our stay at the overlook cabin. We also enjoyed visiting some of the covered bridges in the area. We were thankful for the beautiful weather while we were there. Thanks for all who contributed....just thought I would let everyone know how our trip went.
I am glad you you enjoyed your trip to Turkey Run and had good weather. It is a wonderful place to go to in the spring.
Good luck on your Maine trip in September!
