Edelweiss Restaurant - Public Transportation?

Going to Indy in a few weeks for a conference, and heard that the Edelweiss Restaurant offers great German food... anyone speak to that?

Also, is there public transport to get there, like a bus? Or how much would a taxi cost from downtown to 8602 South Meridian? Is it worth the trip from downtown (and back)?

Edelweiss Restaurant - Public Transportation?

I%26#39;m not familiar with the Edelweiss, but there is a terrific German restaurant downtown, the Rathskellar on E. Michigan St. A cab would cost a fortune (8602 S. Meridian is a haul) and public transportation is pretty inadequate, especially once the rush hour ends. The Rathskellar is one of my favorites and would be much easier to get to.

Edelweiss Restaurant - Public Transportation?

Not familiar with the Edelweiss either. There is the German Haus (sp?) at I465 and Pendelton Pike on the eatside.

Thanks for the replies! I don%26#39;t know the area, not having been to Indy before. But looking at the Bus map, it looks like Bus 22 would go very near this address. Anyone know about the bus system in Indy?

Actually, I bought a restaurant discount certificate ($25 cert. for $10) for this place, so now have a vested interest in getting there. But it%26#39;s not worth $50 of cab fare R-T.

What is the address of the restauarnt?

8602 South Meridian. Looking at Google maps, it looks like I could take the Bus 22 to Community Hospital South (corner of Shelby St. and County Line), and then walk west (looks like about six blocks) and north (about six blocks). I don%26#39;t mind walking, if it%26#39;s safe to walk (not sure if there is a sidewalk).

Looked up the Edelweiss. It%26#39;s on the grounds of The German-American club on the southside just north of Greenwood on S. Meridian St (State Road 135). I%26#39;ve heard nothing but GREAT for the food there. As far as the walk from Community Hospital the distance is about right. There are sidewalks along County Line Road to Meridian St and I thing there are walks up to the G/A Club. If not there are parking lots to cut thru and you might have to walk a block or two along the grass (The street does have curbs though) If the weather is nice that%26#39;s not a bad walk. There area is nice and safe but it is a high traffic area especially during rush hour. You might wat to check the bus lines for a direct route down Meridian St or State Rd 135 to Greenwood. he German -American Club has been there since the 60%26#39;s and they usually have a big Octoberfest there every year

The walk from Community South is over a mile on a very busy street. My guess is that the bus would have stops all along Meridian. I grew up in the neighborhood right behind there and I would see people riding the bus home from work. I moved away 20 years ago and they have recently reduced the number of bus routes so I%26#39;m not sure if they still run by there.

Thanks, Saltydog, for the reply. I looked into IndyGo bus schedules, and the only line still running that far south in the area is #22, going to the Hospital from Downtown (County Line Rd. and Shelby). I%26#39;m not too worried about walking (according to google maps it%26#39;s 1.3 miles from this corner to German Park. I need to be sure the buses run back downtown at 7:30 p.m. or so.

We Americans are too independent, leading to the demise of public transportation...

Thanks, Indyob, for your reply.

I might try the Bus22 and walk from there, assuming the weather is good. The only problem is the bus stops running uptown at 6:40 pm, so I would have to get down there early to walk, eat, and walk back to the bus.

try going to www.obfloors.com and ask for transportation info Don%26#39;t be fooled by the carpet store site
