Indiana Dunes:National Lakeshore verses State Park

Which area is the nicest to visit? Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore or Indiana Dunes State Park? Any particular area of either (West Beach, Central Beach. Marquette Park, etc)? Any opinions out there? Thanks!

Are you overnight camping or having a day visit? Dunes SP has camping, but I don%26#39;t think the West Beach part of the Lakeshore does. Both beaches are very nice, but always crowded when the weather is warm.

no question national lakeshore west beach in particular....its so lovely...a longer walk from car to beach (a wagon comes in real handy) but so worth it. West beach is 6 bucks in state and dunes is 5 but again so worth it...dunes has a new visitor center but the bathrooms are horrific. Cleaner beach and better view, Tons better bathrooms and at least they have showers....the dunes no longer does except for one beach shower....and they allow floatation stuff whereas at the dunes that%26#39;s all you hear is lifeguards yelling about noodles, boogie boards, etc.

Only drawback is probably bigger dunes at the dunes....but still some great hiking at west beach.
