We will be coming to Michigan City next week and I was wondering how safe is the area and are there any areas we want to avoid. Thank you for your time!

What exactly are you going to Michigan City to do? There are areas that aren%26#39;t the best, but if you%26#39;re going to shop and go to the beach you%26#39;ll be fine.

Michigan City is a pretty sketchy city in general and there are not many GREAT areas, but definately stay away from the area east of Franklin Street (US 421). Particularly near the casino, it%26#39;s pretty dangerous over there. The casino itself is nice and fine, but outside that area...you%26#39;re asking for trouble. The beach at Washington Park is nice and family friendly.
We are planning on going to the beach, the outlet, friendship garden, the zoo and heading up to New Buffalo. We have a place on California Ave. that is by the lake.
