Train into Chicago from NW Indiana/Safe to Park Car?

Hi:

I%26#39;m going into Chicago for a weekend, and would rather not drive into the city. Basically, I%26#39;m trying to find out if there%26#39;s a NW Indiana commuter train station where I could safely park my car for the weekend.

Thanks in advance for any help.

We took the train into Chicago last spring and left our car at the Hammond Station for the South Shore train. It seemed very safe and our car was there when we came back the next day. It was a great way to get to downtown Chicago--I%26#39;d highly recommend it!

You would want to take the South Shore train going into the city, but the station depends on where you are coming from. The Hammond and East Chicago stations have large lots and security patrols the lots all day long. Parking at the East Chicago station is free. I think Hammond is $1.00. The train takes you directly to the heart of downtown at the corner of Randolph and Michigan Ave in front of the Prudential Building and on the NW corner of Millennium Park.

I usually park at East Chicago when I go to the City...I%26#39;ve done it probably 70-80 times and never had a problem.
