Accomodation convenient for Speedway in Sep 2008

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can offer some advice. My husband and I are coming to Indianapolis Speedway next Sept for MotoGP and are looking for accomodation that%26#39;s reasonably convenient to get to the Speedway.

It looks as though accomodation in the vicinity of the airport could be okay or have I got this completely wrong?? We are used to cheaper accomodation - Holiday Inn, Motel 6, Best Western etc. Lots of places seem to be getting booked up already, so any help/suggestions would be great.

Thanks, Claire

The closest to The Speedway are a Motel 6 and a Red Roof INN. Both of these are right off Interstate I 465 and the Speeedway/Clermont exits. ABout 2 miles north at 38th Street is a Jameson Inn. About 2 miles south of the Speedway exit at Rockville Road there are three motels. One is a Wingate Inn. I%26#39;ll get the namnes of the others and phone numbers for you. These are all 3-5 miles from the track. They do expect upwards to 200,000 spectators for this event (on race day) so be sure to plan to leave early.

Thanks for the info and sorry to be slow in replying. Really appreciate you coming back to me.

Not had much luck with some of your suggestions as booked up and some were out of our price league :-( But I%26#39;ve managed to make a couple of bookings with Motel 6 for the one at the airport - Plainfield and one in Indianapolis South - Elmwood Ave. The Holiday Inn%26#39;s nearby are booked up, although the airport one has vacancies.

Which would you say is our best option - airport or Elmwood Ave? Or is there not much difference in it?

Did you get details of the other places to stay? It%26#39;s difficult to tell from the maps which is the best area to stay.

I would go with the airport Motel 6 airport (on Bradbury??) It%26#39;s an easy drive to the track. There isn%26#39;t a whole lot around there but there are plenty of places to eat/drink to and fro the track. It is also easy to get on Interstate 70 and go to downtown Indy (about 10 minutes max) if you%26#39;de like to go there. As far as airport noise it%26#39;s usually not a problem. Indianapolis International doesn%26#39;t have many flights coming in after 10 or 11 p.m and not much taking off before 7 a.m. Also the Motel 6 is on the east side of 465 about a half mile from the airport away from the takeoff/landing patterns. Give me some ideas what you might like to see and do around Indy besides the track (food/drinks/sight) and I%26#39;ll try to help you out.

Wholeheartedly agree with the airport location (avoid the Elmwood Ave. hotel). Quick to the Speedway, relatively quick to downtown Indy if you want to take a shuttle or a taxi or a rental car downtown to enjoy the nightlife that accompanies events such as the MotoGP.

The area around The Circle and the Circle Center Mall is packed with bars and restaurants and is sure to be hoppin%26#39; with all the international and local Moto fans.

Thank you both for your advice - really appreciate it.

I think that from what you%26#39;ve said I%26#39;ll stick with the Motel 6 at Plainfield (it%26#39;s Cambridge Way - can%26#39;t find any ref to Bradbury but hoping that this is the same place?). The reviews on Tripadvisor aren%26#39;t brilliant for the Motel but have stayed at Motel 6 a few times in the past and as long as you know that it%26#39;s basic, then they don%26#39;t disappoint :-)

Thanks for your offer of info on things to do, which I will take you up on nearer to our holiday. It seems such a long time away, but we%26#39;ve got our tickets booked for the Moto GP. They weren%26#39;t our first choice but we were so pleased to have got some - they%26#39;re selling fast. It%26#39;s been my husband%26#39;s dream to come to the Speedway at Indianapolis and to combine this seeing Moto GP for the first time there will make his year!!

Many thanks again for time in helping me get sorted.

Claire
