Garfield Park Arts Center

How many of you guys have visted the Garfield Park Arts Center? Its located in the heart of Garfield Park and is the historic first home of the Childrens museum, former headquarters for metropolitan defense, and the one time winter home of the Indianapolis Zoo from 1930 until 1945. Five years ago Eli Lilly in cooperation with Indy Parks set about saving the space that was set to be bulldozed and after much renovation the building was once again an exhibition space, and it opened in style! The first exhibition the new center hosted was the Smithsonian%26#39;s traveling exhibition series! The year that followed included performances by grammy award winning musicians and world class art. Currently the Arts Center houses an Exhibit dedicated to Cuban Art and Culutre, entitled Viva Cuba. Including two stunning murals composed by children with the help of a guest artist within the center. For many Southsiders like myself this is a breath of fresh air and I was hoping to hear your opinions of the art center. I realy would recomend it as a travel destination as it is free and less than three miles from downtown.

There is a first Friday opening tonight in honour of the ';Dia De Los Muertos'; or day of the dead at the Garfield Park Arts Center. The celebration is one of many in the city and this is only a hop skip and a jump from fountain square where any first friday is sure to be exciting. You simply follow shelby straight until you reach the Shelby Brach library. You turn into conservatory drive and the rest is s straight shoot. So if you are out tonight stop by and have some post Halloween fun. I intend to be there. Happy belated Halloween everyone and happy day of the dead!

I haven%26#39;t been there yet, but it certainly looks interesting!

I saw it on your GoList, which is very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to put it together!
