Anyone been to West Baden Springs Hotel?

Has anyone stayed at West Baden Springs Hotel down at French Lick? We are looking for a luxurious hotel to stay at not too far from our home in Carmel. (Yes, we want to get out of Indy so that the kids can%26#39;t track us down every second! LOL). I called and was given pretty good rates for either a ';countryside view'; or an ';atrium/no balcony

view'; Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

Anyone been to West Baden Springs Hotel?

Hi..

I have not stayed at West Baden, I usually stay at French Lick

because the rates are more resonable for me. BUT, I have

been to West Baden, and I do plan to stay there sometime,

just for the fun of it. It has been beautifully restored and

probably is the more quiet of the two hotels. I would

definately do the atrium view because it is so awesome

at night! It is a very unique place to stay. I have not

tried out the restaurants, as I enjoy French Lick quite

well.

Just got back from a sister%26#39;s weekend at West Baden Springs. It was outstanding. The restoration was beautifully done, and the facilities certainly qualify as luxurious. The spa was great, and they have a wide range of services. Most of us went for massages (started at $120 for a Swedish). There are both indoor and outdoor pools, and an indoor whirlpool, with a bar/snack bar handy. There is a large veranda with chairs and rockers overlooking the gardens that was a great peaceful place to relax and chat.

SInclair%26#39;s Restaurant was excellent for dinner but pretty pricy (well, maybe not by Marion/Hamilton County standards - most entrees were $30 or more), and it has an exceptional wine list for the area. Breakfast at Sinclair%26#39;s Cafe was very good. It also serves lunch.

There is a shuttle that runs every 15 minutes over to the French Lick Springs Resort and the casino (a mile or so). At French Lick is a Steakhouse that looked like it would be good, and there%26#39;s a cafe and a buffet at the casino. There is also a spa at French Lick.

The restoration at French Lick was also done with the same attention to detail, and the lobby area is quite ornate. Didn%26#39;t see the rooms to be able to compare, but I think they are not as high as the rooms at West Baden.

My wife and I decided to drive down one Sunday afternoon to gamble a little and check out the West Baden. We didn%26#39;t stay but the place looked great. The gardens were beautiful. The drive down there was pretty easy. We took State Road 37 the whole way. Once you get south of Southport Road the traffic is fine although there are a lot of stoplights thru Bloomington. It took us right about two hours from Indy%26#39;s westside. One of these days we plan on staying. By the way, I did win $3.00!!!!

My wife and I enjoyed a one-night stay at West Baden on Wednesday of this week (September 19th) and were absolutely thrilled with place - the restoration, the attention to detail, the service, and the entire atmosphere. A class act, all the way. We hope to make it an annual event.

Go ahead and get the balcony view. My husband and I spent October 3-4 there with an atrium view with balcony, and it is fabulous. If you are looking for luxury, the West Baden Springs Hotel is definitely the way to go. We enjoyed the room, the view, the gorgeous historic hotel and amenities including the indoor and outdoor pools and hot tub.

Spent the night of October 8, 2007 at West Baden Hotel. It was amazing. We chose the atrium view and was very pleased. I think the rooms with the grounds view would possibly be pretty also, but we were glad we chose the atrium view. It was our first visit so we did not get the room with a balcony as I thought we wouldn%26#39;t be in our room except to sleep. Next time we go, we will get the balcony. It was amazing to watch the light change colors at night. Very awesome place. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful, even the view of the hotel from the parking lot was great. We aren%26#39;t big on gambling, but did go visit French Lick Hotel. Should have taken the tour, but we were just so awestruck over West Baden, we spent most of our time just roaming the building and the grounds. On our way out of town, we crossed the street to the French Lick Winery. Had a very nice lunch and enjoyed the wine tasting and gift shop. The town of French Lick wasn%26#39;t too much to see, but was told alot of big businesses were going to come in. I would rather see it stay more of a small town type atmosphere. Only cheaper places to eat was a Dairy Queen and Sonic, no MacDonald%26#39;s. All in all, I wish I was rich so I could spend alot more time there.
