Family Visit to Indianapolis in December

We%26#39;ve never been to Indianapolis before but are thinking of coming down from Michigan with our kids (14 and 12) for a few days between Christmas and New Years. We have reservations at the Embassy Suites Downtown. I%26#39;ve read about the City Market, Duckpin bowling in Fountain Square and the performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Civic Theatre. All of these sound like fun. Any other ideas? Thanks Rob from Ann Arbor, MI

Of course the downtown is decorated from the night after Thanksgiving on with the centerpiece being

The World%26#39;s Largest Christmas Tree'; (The Momument Circle) A horse and carriage ride might be fun (Yellow Rose Carriages) or Christmas at the Zoo. Check out the Indianapolis Children%26#39;s Museum at 30th and Ilinois. Kids love this place however the parents sometimes have more fun. Downtown there is also the Indiana State Museum and for the sports minded there is The NCAA Hall of Fame Museumright next to the state. Just west about 5 miles of course is The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Not sure when the Colts are in town but walking around on Sunday morning watching the tailgaters can be fun. My guess is your a Wolverine fan?

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds good. Unfortunately, we can%26#39;t stay through the weekend so we%26#39;ll miss the Colts activity. But, I have to confess that even though we are Wolverines Fans, I was born and raised in Boston and my wife was born and raised in Pittsburgh so there may be a bit of a rivalry thing going here, I promise we%26#39;ll leave our Patriots gear at home. Thanks! Rob

The Children%26#39;s Museum at about 30th and Meridian Street is very good, even for older ';kids';. Or the 500 Motor Race Speedway. The museum is interesting and you can get a ride around the track in a bus.

The American Superheros Museum is downtown at 20 West Louisiana Street-not well publicized, but nice. Also the NCAA Hall of Champions (downtown) and the Christmas tree on the Monument Circle.

A fun night time activity for the kids could be christmas at the zoo. The zoo is just west of downtown on Washington Street. Lots of lights aroud the zoo %26amp; and indoor exhibit of trains and christmas decor. Also a train ride through the zoo is fun. Just a thought. I assume you are accustomed to much colder weather than we have here in the winter. Check out Indy.org for some other ideas on things to do while in Indy. Just read some review of the Embassy suite it wasn%26#39;t very good. Let us know how your stay was.
